There are a myriad of canvas types with different names at the various sailmakers and tablecloth weight alone does not. Sometimes a single letter can have a big impact on properties and durability.

In recent years, there has been a lot of development on air sails, which were previously players that could be friendly to steer and salvage and which were typically only used with the wind from behind.
