Advice and offers on new sails

The right sails for my boat and my needs

Buying new sails can be a journey into the unknown for many people and therefore it often ends up being bought in confidence in what the chosen sailmaker has said. There are a myriad of canvas types with different names at the various sailmakers and tablecloth weight alone does not. Sometimes a single letter can have a big impact on properties and durability.

In recent years, there has been a lot of development on air sails, which were previously players that could be friendly to steer and salvage and which were typically only used with the wind from behind. Therefore, typical cruising boats, large 150% genoa and maybe a touring arrow / gennaker. But with partly code0 going high to the wind and the new cable free code0 which is now also available as a "Permanent hoist" version. Then you have an easy-to-handle flying sail that just rolls in and out as needed and then the new genoa may only need to be 120% instead of the previous 150%.

A review of your rig and your rolling system, mast carts, sleds, carriages and lap points, is also important. Some items may be reusable for your new sails to save money. Other things may need to be done or renewed.

The above are some of the things we like to help with, whether you have a permanent place in Mahon, or come as a guest sailor.
